Stravinsky Pulcinella
Well into their compositional careers, both Mozart and Stravinsky discovered the past, drawing inspiration from the music of the baroque. Dumbarton Oaks quotes the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, while the Mozart Adagio and Fugue in C Minor harkens back to contrapuntal style of the Well Tempered Clavier, and Fancy on a Bach Air, by contemporary composer John Corigliano, recalls the Bach cello suites. Our concert concludes with one of the first neoclassical works: Pulcinella, a ballet based on an 18th century play after themes by Pergolesi.
