Time Stands Still
Lyric Stage Company of Boston
140 Clarendon Street
Boston, MA
7:30 PM
Widely hailed as one of the best new plays on Broadway, Time Stands Still is the story of Sarah and James, a photojournalist and foreign correspondent, who are reeling after their recent brush with death while on an assignment. Will their relationship of nearly a decade be more threatened by a traditional go at domesticity than the roadside bombs of Baghdad?
Breaking Free of Chains
Boston Philharmonic
Sanders Theatre
45 Quincy Street
Cambridge, MA
7:30 PM
The Philharmonic returns to Lutosławski this year with his astonishing Concerto for Cello and Orchestra. Like a play without words it dramatizes the dilemma of the individual trapped in a repressive social system- in this case Soviet-dominated Poland- struggling to find his own voice and make it heard. The great English cellist Alexander Baillie has performed this work frequently and with unnerving passion; he is regarded as one of the work's leading exponents since the death of Rostropovich, for whom it was written. Performances of this work are rare, riveting and unforgettable experiences.
Il Matrimonio Segreto
Boston University College of Fine Arts
Boston University Theatre, Mainstage
264 Huntington Avenue
Boston, MA
7:30 PM
This farcical domestic comedy features arranged marriages, dowries, feuding sisters, tangled circumstances, banishment to convents, and misdirected romantic aspirations. Inspired in part by Hogarth's painting series "Marriage-a-la-Mode," it lives as a musical bridge between Mozart and Rossini, with lyrical melodies and brilliant, challenging ensembles.

A brilliant portrayal of the Dan White trial after the 1978 assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and gay city supervisor Harvey Milk of San Francisco. Mann tells the story in a provocative and multilayered way, offering as many questions as answers about a tragic chapter in the city's transition to its current political and social climate.

Time of My Life by Alan Ayckbourn
Zeitgeist Stage Company
BCA Plaza Black Box Theatre
527 Tremont Street
Boston, MA
7:30 PM
Ayckbourn's Time of My Life revolves around a family dinner at their favorite restaurant organized by successful businessman Gerry Stratton to celebrate his wife Laura's 54th birthday. Their grown sons are also present with their significant others. It is after the dinner breaks up that Ayckbourn's real genius becomes apparent as the play takes off in three different directions simultaneously. The parents remain in present time, disclosing secrets and redefining their relationship. The oldest son's story moves forward in time over the course of two years, exposing a troubled marriage and the failure of the family business. The youngest son's story moves backwards in time, revealing the beginnings of a new relationship. By juxtaposing events from the past, present, and future concurrently, Ayckbourn reveals the entire spectrum of the family experience associated with that life-changing dinner party.
